Secretary-General Election

Anchor
2024 Secretary-General Candidates TBD

Secretary-General is the highest elected student position available at YMCA Model United Nations and the only leadership position elected by all delegates. This role is a tremendous honor and therefore should be considered and met with a high level of dedication and determination.

The largest portion of the Secretary-General’s work is leading the training and enabling of other elected student officers in preparation for the annual conference. This includes (but is not limited to) assigning and reviewing committee topic descriptions, managing officer development portfolios, guiding officers through parliamentary procedure practice, planning agendas for monthly officer meetings, overseeing progress of officer sub-committees, and serving as the formal liaison for all communication between officers and YMCA program staff.

Each Secretary-General chooses how to approach this role. No two Y-MUN program years are ever the same. It is up to the Secretary-General to take initiative and think of potential changes for both the officer and delegate experiences, leading the group of officers to develop and enact those initiatives. It is critical that the Secretary-General places Model UN as a top priority, as time management is essential to successfully complete individual and group responsibilities.

All things considered, previous Model UN Secretaries-General have found the role to be extremely rewarding. Seeing the conference experience come to fruition and watching both officers and delegates shine makes all the hard work worthwhile. Good luck to all candidates and do not hesitate to reach out to past Secretaries-General, YMCA program staff, or your delegation advisor for more information.
