Hetvi Thakker

Group of 20

Hi everyone! I’m Hetvi Thakker and I will be the chair of the Group of Twenty for 2023. I attend Monroe Township High School and I’m a junior. This year will be my third of Model UN and I’m so excited for the conference ahead. MUN has helped me grow so much as a person, and I am so happy that I have the opportunity to give back to the program that gave so much to me. One piece of advice I’d give to delegates is to not be afraid to get out of your comfort zone. At first, MUN might feel daunting. However, once you break the barriers of your usual comfort zone, you’ll be able to make the most of the MUN experience.

Outside of MUN, I'm involved with youth and government, my school newspaper, key club, my class council, mock trial, amnesty international, and interning on a political campaign. The underlying theme behind all my extracurricular activities is helping others and contributing to a greater cause. I’m also incredibly passionate about political and social advocacy and try to further engage myself through my extracurriculars.

MUN is one of my favorite clubs because it pushed me to grow in my public speaking skills and sparked my passion for debate, politics, and international relations. In my free time, you can find me reading, writing, swimming, or scrolling through social media! One fun fact about me is that I love Taylor Swift and I could talk to you for hours about the poetic genius and detailed meanings behind her songwriting. In the future, I hope to go on to be a lawyer or political journalist and I'm so thankful that MUN has equipped me with so many essential skills that will help me in any career path.
